NC Cavities @ Frascati

Test station for normal conducting cavities (Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Rome)

Low power RF tests and tuning of cavities in clean room.

Technical means
Measurements of scattering parameters of RF structures such as accelerating/deflecting cavities, beam position monitors using Network Analyzer and TDR techniques up to 15 GHz.
Tuning and field measurements of RF structures using the bead-pull technique. The platform allows measurements of horizontal structures up to 2 m and vertical structures up to 1 m.
The class of the clean room is ISO6.

Achievements, related projects
In the platform the following structures have been measured and tuned:
RF deflectors for SPARC_LAB, PSI and FERMI@Elettra
C-band structures for SPARC_LAB energy upgrade and of the ELI-NP Gamma Beam System LINAC to be installed in Magurele (Romania).
RF gun for SPARC_LAB and for ELI_NP projects.

Radiofrequency structure of 2 m under tuning.

Technical steps, expertise
Preparation of structures to be measured with, as example, coaxial/waveguide transitions.
Setup of the test stand with the structure to be measured: connection of structures with instrumentation and/or bead pull test bench.
